Behind the viral
Every month we talk to the creators of the videos we post on our social media, so you can get to know the person behind the viral.
This month, we talked to Matthew Stewart from Destin, Florida. Matthew makes heart-warming and funny videos with his 87-year old grandmother Bobbe (a.k.a. GB). By showing the world how beautiful family love can be, he grew to 2.9 million followers on Tik Tok and over 170 thousand followers on Instagram.
We asked Matthew about his relationship with his grandmother, but also about his most important life lessons, and the future of Planet Earth. Enjoy.
What made you start recording you and your grandma?
“I started putting videos of her on Snapchat when I was living with her years ago. All my friends said I should make a YouTube channel and post our videos on there but I started to travel for work and was on the road for 4 years. When I came back TikTok was out so I posted some videos of her on there for fun and it blew up. She honestly became loved overnight and the rest is history!”
What do you enjoy most about having an online presence?
“Our favorite part of having an online presence is having such a positive impact on people’s lives. GB has received countless messages thanking her for putting a smile on their faces. Telling her that she has filled a void in their lives. Spreading love is what we enjoy most!”
What is your best memory together?
“Our favorite memory together are all the fishing trips we use to take. We both love to fish and created many memorable moments together out on the water.”
How do you see the next 3 years for yourself?
“Time will tell but hopefully we’re still making people smile all over the world. GB is moving in with us in March so we’ll be spending tons of time together making as many memories in our new home as possible!”
How do you see the perfect world?
“In a perfect world everyone would just slow down and enjoy life. We would stop worrying about the little things and just be happy. We’re not here forever…”
What would be the one advice you could give your younger self?
“I would tell my younger self to slow down and enjoy every moment of my youth. I was in such a big hurry to grow up that at times I forgot to enjoy being a kid. Being an adult is hard! ”
What do you think is needed to create more unity?
“I believe the world needs more understanding and compassion. It seems we have lost touch with the fact that people have differences and that is ok. We are all entitled to our own opinions in life. Sometimes even if we don’t agree with someone we should just listen and agree to disagree.”
